AlfredSTANLEYSTANLEY (ALFRED) - Warrant Officer Alfred Stanley DFM December 16, 2003 aged 83 years. Alfred enlisted in the RAF as air crew and won his wing as a Wireless Operator Air Gunner subsequently flying a tour of operations on Stirlings and Flying Fortresses with 214 Squadron, Bomber Command. For his devotion to duty and courage, W/O Stanley was awarded immediate Distinguished Flying Medal; following an attack on Gelenkirchen on June 21/22, 1944. Although suffering from painful head wounds following two attacks by night fighters he had worked to restore his aircrafts intercom before taking aid himself. A loss no victory can replace, he fought for those he loved. And those he loved remember. To be remembered by those he loved is all he would have asked. Fond memories of a dear Brother, from Arthur.
